This morning you will take the winding roads to Turrialba Volcano National Park. Here you will be able to admire the active volcano close-up, and hike on the trails to the impressive crater. The Turrialba volcano has been very active during the last years, damaging both villages and farmlands with its heat and ashes. It is impressive to see the power of nature so close, and it is a scenery like nowhere else.
You can bring your own food, and have a picnic in these surreal surroundings, or have lunch in one the local “sodas”.
Ask us for tips on where to eat!
From the volcano at 3 329 masl. you pass through the village of Santa Cruz, the crib of the Turrialba cheese, and continue onwards to Turrialba where you will spend the following two nights. Depending on your time you can stop along the road and do hikes to beautiful waterfalls or do a Turrialba cheese tour where you get to milk the cows and make your own cheese.
You can check-in at your accommodation after 3 p.m. Rest of the afternoon free and dinner on your own.
After a local breakfast at the beatuful open-air restaurant at your lodge we get prepared for an exciting day with canyoneering and canopy. This is a day where both young and old will be challenged while rappelling, zip-lining through the rainforest, hanging bridge and more!
Canyoning involves rappelling and descending cliffs and waterfalls within the canyon, and our canyoning site is located in Calle Chirraca, a small, and modest, yet very lush and tropical forest in Turrialba. There will be an introduction of our guides and the equipment to help familiarize you with the different use before the fun begin.
We serve a fresh and tasty lunch after your adventures.
Rest of the afternoon is free and dinner on your own.
Local breakfast and coffee at the open-air restaurant with a spectacular view of the valley of Turrialba. After breakfast you check-out from your accommodation and continue to Nortico Cacao Farm, a 10 minute drive from the lodge.
At the farm we will take you on a journey to discover the mystical story behind Theobroma Cacao, “Food of the Gods”, and how it has been explored and modified through time to get the characteristic taste of chocolate as we know it today.
The tour ends with a fun and interactive workshop where you participate in transforming fresh roasted cacao beans into your own personal chocolate treats!
You will have lunch at the farm and are free to stay and enjoy the farm, the view and the fresh air before you return home or continue with your travels in Costa Rica.
